Why I Started Easy Food Dehydrating...

My goal was—and still is—to teach you all about the easy food dehydrating way of storing food for those rainy days... and surviving nasty storms that knock power out for days.

When you learn how to dry food safely and the best way to store it, it means you'll have your favorite fruits and veggies available to you—all year round.

You don't need a ton of expensive equipment: Just a dehydrator, a food vacuum sealing machine and bags, and oxygen absorbers.

Mason jars in a row on a shelf, filled with dehydrated vegetables

For storing food for daily use, use Mason jars which look cool on your kitchen cupboard shelves. It's easy to see what's in them!

In the image below, I'm working on a batch of raisins (dried grapes). Homemade raisins are tastier than boxes of small store-bought raisins... Make juicy delicious-tasting raisins here!

"Be Prepared"

And in terms of natural disasters? "Be Prepared" is not just a motto. Have enough food on hand so you're prepared to deal with whatever comes your way.

Be prepared - snowstorm

I'm just like you—someone who wants to make sure her family is fed—no matter what life throws our way.

The Catalyst?

After twin hurricanes in 2004, I didn't have enough food to last more than two measly days

Fresh stuff rots and frozen stuff melts. You can't eat it all on "Day One."

In 2010 I heard about a guy with a basement full of "dehydrated" food. I became a copycat, albeit on a much smaller scale. We have no basements here in Florida, but I have the next best thing: a wall full of dehydrated food. I was determined to be better prepared.

I got busy. I learned how to dehydrate food and discovered what works and what doesn't. I'll show you how to create your own "secret food stash" so your family won't run short.

Inflation is another reason to dry food NOW and store it away—for later.

I hope you spend many happy hours dehydrating your garden's gift of food!
