How Do You Vacuum Air Out Of a Mason Jar?

by Karinne
(New Port Richey, FL)

I've got a batch of mason jars arriving soon. I noticed on your page you talk about adding an oxygen absorber in the jar, but you never talk about drawing out the air. Why is that? Do I need to remove the air if I'm using an oxygen absorber?

Hey Karinne, both are great questions. Yes, you're right; I hadn't vacuumed the air out because I do add oxygen absorbers to the jar because I'm in and out of the jars (a lot!).

When you want to store your items in Mason jars for more than a week (i.e. NOT daily use), then yes, please vacuum out the air.

Take a look at this page about my new page: Pawcute Mason Jar Vacuum Sealer

And yes, you still need to remove the air when using an oxygen absorber, again, that's for bi-weekly/monthly storage.

It's actually a lot of fun. See the post because i have some tips on relieving the pressure so the Pawcute lid comes off and leaves the sealed LID behind. Then it's time to screw on the band.

I hope this helped, Karinne. Thanks for taking the time to write in. Don't forget to pick up a free copy of my "Six Simple Steps" and "How to Grow & Dehydrate Herbs" - top Navigation bar, under "FREEBIES"
