2840 closed w/ jar sealer attachment
I have used Food Saver 2840 for about a year. I have had no problems with it. It works great sealing up the vacuum bags. I also use it a lot for vacuum sealing commodities in canning jars - items such as raisins, popcorn, spices herbs, and dried Parmesan cheese, that I will use more immediately.
One review I read before purchase, by a man who used his as a vacuum bag sealer more than I, said that the two gaskets (top and bottom) around the vacuum seal had a tendency to get compressed during storage. This made them less effective. He suggested putting a small piece of foam between the lid and the machine upon closing for storage. Be sure the foam is not in contact with the gaskets. He also recommended keeping extra gaskets (about $1 each) on hand. I have taken his precautionary measures to heart. The gasket issue may be true for other vacuum sealers as well - a good suggestion.
