FD-60

I bought my Nesco American Harvest Dehydrator & Jerky Maker today, after using my old Mr. Coffee model for about a week or so. I felt I needed a second one. Forget the Mr. Coffee! The Nesco works faster, better, and more even. I love that it has temperature control and the fan on the top. I also don't have to rotate the trays like the other one. It is also quieter! I love it!

Try EBay?
by: Suzanne

Hi there, have you been to EBay? Maybe someone there has an old dehydrator that they can sell to you that's the same one as yours?

Do you know if any of the other brand trays will fit a mr. coffee dehydrator? I have an old one & am not ready to upgrade to a whole new dehydrator just to add capacity...

Love my dehydrator. I have my favorite fruits of course. One being Granny Smith apple rings.

I have noticed I eat more fruit and have less wasted fruits.

Because I count calories -- I bag up my fruit in snack bags -- 1 dried apple in a bag. That way I can count my servings more easily.

NESCO FD61P 500 Watt Dehydrator

by Roland
(Central Florida)

The best dehydrator I have owned

The best dehydrator I have owned

Best dehydrator I have ever owned. I never have to rotate trays. I have dried jalapeno peppers, okra, potatoes and onions at the same time without flavors transferring. We are blessed to live in Zone 9, central Florida and garden 365 days a year. We freeze and dehydrate all our crops. Our dehydrated veggies store for years in glass jars with tight fitting lids.

Helen, I hope you will return your dehydrator to the seller for a replacement ...

I had a broken Excalibur Dehydrator delivered and it had to be replaced!
Good luck!

Nesco with seven trays

by Sheila
(Kentucky)

I have the seven tray Nesco and I bought some of those non-stick sheets, they are very handy and have little finger cut-outs on the edges so you can lift them out easily!

I do notice that they stain, especially after dehydrating carrots, so I keep those sheets for carrots and sweet potatoes. The unstained sheets I use for fruits etc that don't stain!

Ancient - But Still Works!

by Kirsten
(Philadelphia)

I have a model so old that they do not make it anymore, and I have no idea of the model. I think it was a early version of the Snackmaster but I cannot be sure, (it's round, if that helps... fan on the bottom).

It's old, cranky, and no longer stacks neatly because at some point it overheated and the trays warped just slightly... while I wouldn't use it for meat, anymore... it works just fine for vegetables.

The thing is -- the ancient old dehydrators are *fine* for vegetables and other less tricky items so as long as you are not making jerky? Keep it until it dies!

Great Post "Caregiver"
by: Susan

Great Post "Caregiver" - thanks so much for taking the time to post that!

Love the info on E-6000 to repair them :-)

Please thank your grandson for his service to our country.

Nesco FD-50 dehydrater
by: Caregiver

They don't make this one anymore, either. I've had it for probably 35 years, as I made fruit rollups & snacks for my 38-y-o daughter when she was a baby. It still works great. I expanded it from 4 to 6 trays, also years ago. The only problem I've had is that the trays become brittle and crack around the outer rim. I keep a tube of E-6000 to repair them, and they're just like new! I just ordered 4 more trays today to expand it.

My daughter still likes crispy apple slices, and I also send CARE packages of apple slices and turkey jerky to my grandson in the Army. Vacuum-sealed individual servings are great when he goes out on a training for several days.

4 tray model

by Dan
(West Palm Beach ,FL.)

Best Dehydrator on the market. I dry mangoes and the Nesco - does it perfectly. I liked it so much I have 2 now.

I have tried other machines and they ruined the mangoes with a nasty plastic taste so I stay with the Nesco only.

Fantastic kitchen appliance. It works great on fruit meat and whatever you want to dry. Fast quiet and efficient. I recommend spraying the trays for easier cleanup. Overall, you can't beat this product.

What do you use to spray your trays with, Mark?
by: Susan

Hi Mark - thanks for your submission.

I agree, Nesco dehydrators are great and that's a good tip regarding spraying your trays - but what are you spraying them with?

Would you care to post back with what you use?

Thanks so much.

Cheers,
Susan for Easy Food Dehydrating

Which Dehydrator Lasts?

by Martin M.

How long does a Nesco dehydrator last? I haven't bought one yet.

Hi Martin, seems like you're shopping around and it's a wise thing to do. I've had my Nesco EF-75A since - wait for it - 2012 and it's still going strong!

Nesco units are well-priced and are big sellers, though check out my Product Review for the "Elite Gourmet" dehydrator - and for sure visit the "Excalibur" dehydrator page.

nesco fd 75A

by Toni
(VA)

I love my dehydrator and been drying everything my family will eat. I bought new trays and screens recently from Amazon but they were a little too big. I can use the trays but I had to cut down the screens. I want to get fruit roll-up trays to do tomato sauce to make tomato powder but don't think they will work if I have to cut them down. They say they will fit my NESCO but the other thing didn't.
Thank you for this article.
